Peking to Paris 1907 (www.pekingparis.com) The original Peking-Paris rally was in 1907. There were just a few cars and fewer roads. The story goes that crews used silver bars for currency. They would shave off sections of bars to pay for food, gas and repairs! The 60’s Jack Lemon – Tony Curtis movie “The Great Race” was as loosely based on this event. We were notified recently by the Endurance Rally Association that our route needed to be changed due to the recent internal civil strife in Kyrgyzstan. We're very sorry to miss the beautiful landscape of Kyrgyzstan The original route took us through some of the most scenic and beautiful parts of our entire route. City officials in Osh had asked us to camp in their city center. It sounded like they were really looking forward to our visit. I am sure that would have been quite an experience. While... (more...)
