Got a surprise call from Fritz today.  He’s spending the week solo in Paris.  After so many days of traveling with Lang, making decisions as an individual is strange to say the least.  Every decision in the last 37 days – when to eat, where to turn, what the car needs – has been made as a team.  Fritz said that when Lang left him with his family at the finish line he just didn’t know what to do.  He had to get the car taken care of, find his hotel and get ready... (more...)

It’s been a crazy day here at Mission Control!  It all started with the following email  and picture from Lang. Today started with an Italian traffic jam on the Autostrada.   Well, here we are in Italy.  The ferry was a couple hours late and it is raining cats and dogs. And oh yes, there is an accident on the autostrade that has us stopped! It will be an interesting day! -Lang Little did Lang know just how interesting today would be!  Within an hour of receiving Lang’s email I got... (more...)

I always thought that Iran would be the centerpiece of our trip and after three full days here, it has exceeded my expectations. It is just amazing. Today was the border crossing into Iran.  No word from Fritz or Lang, but for now we’ll just continue to go with no news is good news.  According to the official Peking to Paris report, the weather was sunny and hot, the locals were very excited to see the drivers and the roads were wonderfully smooth.  The hotel arrangements in Gorgan were canceled for the President of Iran so other arrangements had to be made.  Some slept 8 people to a room in one of the 15 rooms left, some camped... (more...)

Day 18 Monday 27th Sept – Almaty (Kazakhstan) 2nd REST DAY

Posted by Mission Control On September - 27 - 20101 COMMENT

Today is the second and final rest day in Almaty.  It seems that some of the teams are using the time to catch up to the group.  The window for catching up is closing quickly as crossing borders on trucks will get more difficult and become impossible as the group crosses from Turkmenistan to Iran in just 8 days.  >read the official report for day 18 >check out the rally’s official video journal    I had some trouble getting the videos to load and play smoothly.  If you have the... (more...)
